GS cat ladies - what kind of cat or dog should I get for an apartment?

I'm a cat lady, but I've owned both cats and dogs in my life. I prefer getting a cat or dog from a rescue shelter. The best cat I ever had was unwanted and previously owned. What do you do all day with a kitten or pup? You play with them and make them feel loved. Animals want to be loved and they want to belong.
